Second such honor for sophomore guard
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Anastasia Hayes has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Player of the Week after turning in strong performances in two Lady Raider games last week. It marks the second time Hayes has garnered the honor this season.
Hayes averaged 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists to lead Middle Tennessee in games at North Texas and Rice.
The redshirt sophomore scored a career-best 33 points at North Texas and added four steals. The 33 points are the most a Conference USA player has scored against a league foe this season. Hayes connected on 14-of-25 field goals and was perfect in five free-throw attempts. The 14 field goals also represented a career high for Hayes.
Hayes followed that performance with 16 points, four rebounds and six assists against Rice.
The stellar guard has scored double figures in every game this season, including six of 20-plus points.
Hayes is second in C-USA for scoring with 17.7 points per game, fifth for assists (4.2), eighth for steals (1.7) and 12th for assist-turnover ratio (1.0). She is also second in C-USA for minutes played with 36.6 per game.
