MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — With four games left in the regular season, the stakes have risen, as Middle Tennessee is fighting during Conference USA Bonus Play to earn one of the final two spots in next month's C-USA Championship.
Game 28: Middle Tennessee (6-21, 2-12 C-USA) at Southern Miss (9-18, 5-9 C-USA)
» Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 – 12 p.m. CST
» Reed Green Coliseum (8,095) – Hattiesburg, Miss.
About the Blue Raiders
» Middle Tennessee dropped its fourth straight game with last Saturday's loss to UAB.
» Donovan Sims is the only Blue Raider to start all 27 games of the 2019-20 season.
» MT's top team statistic is the 516 free throws attempted this season, which ranks as the third-most in C-USA. However, the Blue Raiders are seventh in free throws made.
» C.J. Jones has led the Blue Raiders offensively and is best in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (39.9%).
» Senior forward Reggie Scurry leads his team in rebounds (5.1 per game) and field goal percentage (61.0%).
All-Time vs. Southern Miss
» MT improved to 9-3 all-time against the Golden Eagles with a 65-63 win at Murphy Center earlier this season.
» The win snapped a two-game Southern Miss win streak that started at the 2018 C-USA Championship.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
» Saturday's game is crucial for both the Blue Raiders and Golden Eagles, who are fighting for a spot in the C-USA Championship.
» Despite being 11th in the conference in scoring offense, Southern Miss likes to share the ball, as the Golden Eagles are second in assists per game and third in assist to turnover ratio.
» Forwards Leonard Harper-Baker and Tyler Stevenson seem to drive the Golden Eagles, as both are ranked in C-USA's top 10 in a number of different categories.
» At 6-foot-5, Harper-Baker is second in C-USA in defensive rebounds per game, while the 6-foot-8 Stevenson leads the league in field goal percentage.
» Both big men are tied for third in C-USA with five double-doubles this season.
Last Time Out
» The Blue Raiders dropped a 79-66 decision at home to UAB.
» Guards Donovan Sims and C.J. Jones led the way with 14 points apiece, but UAB topped that with their top two leading scorers contributing 22 and 20 points, respectively.
» Three-point defense showed signs of improvement for the Blue Raiders, as the Blazers were just 2-11 from beyond the arc.
» Anthony Crump played his best game to date with a career-best 10 points in 22 minutes off the bench.
Next Time Out
» MT will have eight days before it takes the floor again.
» Tip-off at Rice is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.
