Tough first day at Blue Gray Classic

MT drops first match to No. 46 Arizona, 4-0
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Competing in the first day of the Blue Gray Classic, No. 27 Middle Tennessee men's tennis came up short against No. 46-ranked Arizona (4-0) and Texas Tech doubles (1-0).
Starting off the match in singles play, the Raiders looked to make an opening splash against the reigning champs as Tom Moonen jumped out to an early 5-2 lead against No. 64 Jonas Ziverts in the first set.
Junior Chris Edge battled on court two against No. 40-ranked Filip Malbasic with Malbasic conquering the first set over Edge, 6-3. In the second set, Malbasic defeated Edge, 6-1.
On court six, sophomore Pavel Motl was defeated by Nick Lagaev, 6-2, 6-1 to increase the Wildcat lead to 2-0.
Stijn Slump fell on court three against Alejandro Reguant, 6-1, 6-2.
Down 3-0, Moonen tried to win the first set but fell in a tight set, 7-5. Ziverts clinched with a 6-2 second set.
Later in the afternoon, the Blue Raiders began the match with Texas Tech. The Red Raiders quickly earned the 1-0 lead heading into singles on Saturday.
The Blue Raiders look to bounce back Saturday morning as they finish the consolation match against No. 21 Texas Tech.
