Rookie big man is third All-Frosh Raider in last six years
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Conference USA announced its 2020 All-Conference, All-Defensive and All-Freshman Teams Monday afternoon with Middle Tennessee rookie Tyson Jackson representing the Blue Raiders on the All-Freshman Team.
Jackson's first campaign in Murfreesboro saw him earn 22 starts and play in all 31 contests for the Blue Raiders, averaging 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in just over 20 minutes per outing while also serving as MT's first sub in five of his nine appearances off the bench.
His team-leading 21 blocks make him the first Blue Raider freshman to lead the team in blocks since Alex Weekes (25) did so in 2004. He is also the first Blue Raider rookie to register 20-plus blocks since 2014 Conference USA Player of the Year Shawn Jones swatted 20 shots as a freshman in 2011.
The Fairburn, Ga., product tallied nine double-digit scoring games and collected five or more boards on 18 occasions, and was perhaps at his best on the biggest stage as he went 7 for 7 for 14 points and eight rebounds – all career highs – on the road at SEC foe Ole Miss to earn C-USA Freshman of the Week honors.
"I'm really proud of what Tyson was able to accomplish this year, both on and off the court, and I'm happy for him on receiving this great recognition," Head Coach Nick McDevitt said. "When you think of all the things you want in a student-athlete, he's got it. Tyson is going to have a great career as a Blue Raider!"
Jackson is the third Blue Raider to be named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in seven seasons as a member of the league, joining Blue Raider great Giddy Potts (2015) and Tyrik Dixon (2017).
In addition to Jackson, the remainder of this year's All-Freshman Team is comprised of Charlotte's Jahmir Young, Marshall's Andrew Taylor, UAB's Jalen Benjamin and WKU's Jordan Rawls.
All of C-USA's 2020 All-Conference selections can be found below. Individual superlative awards will be announced on Tuesday and Wednesday.
