INDIANAPOLIS – Middle Tennessee men's cross country, softball, women's golf and women's tennis have all earned Public Recognition Awards this Spring as released by the NCAA on Tuesday. The four teams equal the most recognized by the NCAA in Middle Tennessee history and the fifth time overall that at least three teams have been honored.
Men's Cross Country earned the recognition for the third time overall and the second time in a row, while softball earned the recognition for the first time.
Blue Raider women's golf, led by 13th-year head coach Chris Adams, was recognized for the seventh straight year. The Blue Raiders have a perfect score of 1000.
Women's tennis, which picked up their first honor last year, made it two in a row.
These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in their respective sport with their APRs.
"For us to have four teams recognized for the second straight year is evidence of the hard work our student-athletes do in the class room," Director of Athletics Chris Massaro said. "This is the type recognition everyone should be proud of at Middle Tennessee. The work our Student-Athlete Enhancement Center staff does each day should not go unnoticed. They are continually committed to our academic success."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. Below is a complete listing of past Blue Raider teams receiving the Public Recognition Award. For more information on the Academic Progress Rate, please log on to www.ncaa.org.
