MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee netter Lidia Burrows was named one of this season's top women's tennis players in Conference USA, as the league announced its 2020 All-Conference Teams on Monday.
The West Yorkshire, England native led the Blue Raiders with an 11-2 record in dual match singles play to earn a spot on the All-Conference USA Singles First Team list. After dropping her first two singles contests of the 2020 campaign, Burrows regrouped and reeled off 11 consecutive victories before the season was halted due to COVID-19 on March 12.
Burrows was virtually a guaranteed point in every match for the Blue Raiders in the middle of the order, as 10 of those singles wins came at the No. 3 spot. In matches that saw a third set, she was a perfect 3-0.
Burrows, who was also 5-3 in doubles play, saw her senior season come to an unexpected end but will be back on the court for the Blue Raiders in 2021 due to the NCAA's ruling on March 30 that stated seniors whose season ended due to COVID-19 would be granted an extra year of eligibility. She'll enter her fifth season in Murfreesboro with 74 singles wins, fourth-most all-time in program history.
