MURFREESBORO, TN – Middle Tennessee women's tennis coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall announced the 2020 fall slate on Wednesday.
Due to COVID-19 there was uncertainty regarding a fall schedule so Bailey-Duvall is pleased for the opportunity for her team to hit the court.
"We are looking forward to competing this fall," Bailey-Duvall said. "We knew that the COVID-19 pandemic would affect our schedule and we are fortunate to be able to get some matches in. Our team is strong with the return of Lidia Burrows, taking advantage of her extra year and earning her masters degree. With the addition of our two freshmen and Burrow's return, we will be in a great position to accomplish our team goals and build off of last year's success."
The Blue Raiders' fall slate will start Oct. 2-3 when they play in the annual Gridiron Classic hosted by Mercer in Macon, Georgia for a hidden dual match. Two weeks later, the Raiders will host a fall tournament with Chattanooga, Mercer and WKU on Oct. 16-17.
To finalize its fall session, Middle Tennessee will travel to Chattanooga for a final hidden dual match (Oct. 30-31).
Middle Tennessee got off to a slow start in the 2020 spring season before turning things around quickly, rattling off a six-match winning streak before the NCAA was forced to cancel the rest of the spring sports season because of COVID-19. The team held a 9-5 record and reached an ITA ranking of 83 nationally.
The team returns six from the spring and add two talented freshmen from Germany. Lidia Burrows will take advantage of the NCAA's additional year of eligibility granted to seniors to return for another season. She is ranked fourth in the program's career singles wins with 74, two wins behind third.
