MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee women's tennis coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall and her staff announced a full slate of 22 matches for the 2021 season on Tuesday.
As expected, scheduling matches this winter has been tough, but Bailey-Duvall, entering her third year at MT, and the Blue Raiders are excited and grateful for their upcoming campaign.
"We are excited about this year's spring schedule," she said. "Even though COVID-19 creates a bit of uncertainty, we are grateful to know that we have the potential for a full season against quality teams — some teams that were not initially on our schedule. We are looking forward to opening our season against Vanderbilt, offering the chance to compete against one of the best teams in the nation. Thank you to Chris Massaro and President McPhee for allowing us to compete this semester."
Middle Tennessee's schedule includes 13 matches at the Adams Tennis Complex, with nine more on the road. Two of the blue and white's opponents hail from the SEC, one from the ACC.
The Blue Raiders will open the season hosting Vanderbilt. Their home opener against the Commodores (Jan. 23) will be the first time the two have played in Murfreesboro since 1993 and the 40th meeting overall. The Commodores have won 24 straight in the series.
MT will then hit the road for the first time to Lexington, Kentucky for its second SEC showdown with Kentucky (Jan. 28).
They'll head to ETSU on Jan. 30, a team MT has beaten the last two meetings, before heading home for a five-match homestand.
The Blue Raiders will first host Miami (Jan. 31) before four teams — Kennesaw State (Feb. 5), Murray State (Feb. 6) and a doubleheader with Marshall and Alabama A&M (Feb. 7) — come to the Adams Tennis Complex in three days.
They will then travel to Indianapolis for a doubleheader with Butler and IUPUI on Feb. 12 before heading to Ball State (Feb. 13) for the 11th meeting between the teams. MT leads the series 6-4.
Middle Tennessee will return from the short road trip to Murfreesboro for six straight matches, starting with a doubleheader with SEMO and Austin Peay on Feb. 27. Tennessee State will then make the short jaunt from Nashville for a standalone Feb. 28.
The Blue Raiders will host a pair of Conference USA matches with LA Tech (March 6) and Southern Miss (March 7) before rounding out the homestand with a bout with UT Martin on March 12.
After a two-week break, MT will hit the road for two matches against Charlotte (March 27) and Davidson (March 28).
Middle Tennessee will host rival WKU on April 3 and hit the road to Samford (April 9) before wrapping up its C-USA regular-season slate with a home match against UAB (April 10).
The Conference USA Championships will take place in Denton, Texas from April 23-25.
