Nashville, Tenn. – Freshmen Amelia Van Der Werff recorded double-digit kills for the first time in her young career. However, the Middle Tennessee volleyball team was unable to hold off Lipscomb Sunday afternoon in Allen Arena. With the match tied at one after two sets, Lipscomb would take the next two sets to win the match, 3-1 (8-25, 25-19, 13-25, 25-15).
Van Der Werff led the Blue Raiders with 11 kills, followed by Kayla Henley and Dasia Smith's nine. Taylor Eisert collected 31 assists, and Marley Banton earned 17 digs.
Lipscomb would go on a 10-0 run to end the first to take the set 25-8. The Blue Raiders came back strong in the second set, opening with a 6-3 lead. Lipscomb would attempt to come back late in the set, but the Blue Raiders would take it 25-19 to tie the match.
After Lipscomb won the third set 25-13, Middle Tennessee struggled to get its momentum back. The Bisons went on an 8-1 run to develop a good size lead. Lipscomb continued to string together multiple points, creating a gap that the Blue Raiders couldn't erase.
Middle Tennessee will back in action next Friday as they face North Alabama at 6:00 pm in Florence, Ala.
