Doubles Dominates Final Day of Illini Invite

Champaign, Ill. – The Blue Raiders competed in the final day of Illini Invite on Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center. Middle Tennessee was joined by Arizona State, Illinois and Tennessee in a hidden dual format, no team score was recorded over the weekend.

Middle Tennessee picked up four singles victories for the second day in a row. Nationally-ranked Francisco Rocha trounced Guzauskas of Illinois in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Oskar Brostrom Poulsen won back-to-back matches to close the invitational. Brostrom Poulsen jumped out to a quick lead in the second set and eventually finished off Nic Meister, 7-6(5). Chris Edge battled back after a tough start against Lucas Horve. Edge prevailed winning the next two sets, 6-3, 7-5. Lucas Olivier retired Kweisi Kenyatte after the first set. Bernardi, Chin, Holis, Motl, and Slump fell in their respective matches.

The Blue Raiders swept the Fighting Illini in doubles play. Edge and Motl made quick work of Illinois' Heck/Kenyatte, 6-1. Bernardi and Slump bounced back after yesterday's close loss dropping Brown/Horve, 7-5. In back-to-back match clinchers, MT took care of business with Holis/Olivier and Rocha/Brostrom Poulsen winning their sets, 7-6(5) and 6-4, respectively.

Middle Tennessee will turn its attention to the Clemson Hidden Duals on November 5th in Clemson, South Carolina.
