Blue Raiders Defeather the Owls 3-2 on Senior Night

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders returned home after the bye week and moved up to a 5-0 record at home and a 6-3 record in C-USA play after topping the Owls in a five-set thriller.
After a 2,190 day winless drought against FAU, the Blue Raiders beat the Owls in sets of 25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, and 15-13. Middle Tennessee moves up to 8-7 (6-3) on the year and sits in second place behind Western Kentucky.
Defensively, the Blue Raiders looked as good as ever. The block set up well as it ever has this season, allowing Marley Banton to rack up 39 digs on a 7.8 digs per set average. Kayla Henley and Samira Lawson Body both had double-doubles, Henley hitting home an essential 10 kills home in the final two sets. Dasia Smith had a great night also, with an efficient 14 kills on 26 attempts at a .423 clip. Taylor Eisert's 51 assists moved her up to fifth place in career assists.
Middle Tennessee vs. Florida Atlantic Set-by-Set
Set one was a defensive masterpiece for the Blue Raiders, forcing the Owls to have 10 attack errors in the set. Dasia Smith kept the engine running on offense, with four kills on four attempts.
The second set was a battle with nine lead changes and 16 score ties. Smith and Michaela Wright combined for 6 kills on 9 attempts in the set.
The Owls got out to an early lead and did not look back till the end. The Blue Raiders got close to coming back with the score at 19-21, but the Owls made a push to the end after a few errors went in their favor.
Henley led the way for the Blue Raiders in set four with five kills on seven attempts at a .714 clip. The block was setting up great again like it was in the first set, allowing Banton to scrape up 12 digs in the set. Megan Turner, Melisa Tore, and Wright all had service aces in set four.
Set five was a nail-biter as the Blue Raiders found themselves down 5-9 in the middle of the set. Down 5-9, Henley proceeded to hit home three kills in a row along with Banton's service ace to tie things up. The cardiac kids proceeded to win their fourth five-set match of the season.
