Blue Raiders earn 9-3 win over the Trevecca Trojans

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders continue their hot play as they defeated the Trevecca Trojans 9-3 on Saturday at Blue Raider Softball Field.
Freshman Laura Mealer led the Blue Raiders offense, going 4-for-4 and knocking in a team-best three RBIs and scoring two runs. Senior Mia Marinakis went 1-for-4 and knocked in two RBIs, while sophomore Danielle Taitt hit 2-for-3, freshman Abby Shoulders went 2-for-4, and sophomore Shelby Sargent hit 1-for-4, all tallying an RBI apiece in the contest. Senior Savannah Freeman led the Blue Raiders with a team-best three runs scored in the win.
On the mound, Taitt led the Blue Raiders off, pitching three innings and allowing one hit. Freshman Claire Woods put in two innings of work, striking out two Trojans, walking a batter, and giving up three hits. Senior Kailey Ahlstrom pitched three innings, tallying a team-best three strikeouts, and allowing a pair of hits. Marinakis closed out the game for the Blue Raiders, striking out a pair of Trojans and giving up three runs on two hits.
The Blue Raiders got things started in the second as Shoulders knocked a one-out RBI double to score a speedy Freeman, who came in to pinch run for Taitt after a one-out single and beat out the throw at home to give Middle Tennessee the 1-0 lead.
Middle Tennessee broke things open in the third. Mealer connected on a one-out RBI single to plate sophomore Jaya Herring. After Mealer stole second, Marinakis knocked a one-out ground-rule double to score bring across Mealer and junior Kelci Hill and extend the Blue Raiders lead to 4-0. Freeman beat out another throw at home after an error at first to tack on another run for the Blue Raiders and push the lead to 5-0 after three.
In the fourth, Shoulders knocked a lead-off double to open the inning. Sargent connected on a one-out double to plate Shoulders and bring the Blue Raiders lead to 6-0.
Freshman Anyce Harvey opened the fifth for the Blue Raiders with a lead-off single to left field. Mealer followed it up with a huge double down the left field line to bring across Harvey. Taitt hit a two-out RBI single to push across Mealer and extend Middle Tennessee's lead to 8-0 heading into the sixth.
Senior Lani Rodriguez connected on a one-out single to center field to get things going in the seventh. Freeman came in to pinch run for Rodriguez, before stealing second and then being easily brought home after a huge RBI triple from Mealer to bring the Blue Raider lead to 9-0.
The Trojans plated three runs in the 10th inning, but it was too little too late as the Blue Raiders would eventually close out the 9-3 win.
