MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee baseball head coach Jim Toman announced the team's 2022 schedule Wednesday.
The 56-game regular season slate begins Feb. 18 and features 21 games at Reese Smith Jr. Field and 35 games on the road lasting through May 21.
A schedule that features road trips to eight different states, MT is set to spend 17 of its first 18 games away from home, including its first eight, against challenging non-conference opponents.
The Blue Raiders will face seven 2021 NCAA Regional teams, including College World Series runner-up Vanderbilt.
The home opener takes place March 1 against Lipscomb with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
Conference USA play opens up for the Blue Raiders with a three-game home series against Old Dominion March 18-20. The longest homestand of the season lasts from April 26 to May 3 with two single games standing in between a three-game series vs. UTSA.
All times are subject to change.
"The 2022 spring MTSU baseball schedule will challenge our guys all season long," Toman said. "We will be road warriors early against very good competition. The early season non-conference schedule will prepare us for the grueling 30-game Conference USA schedule."
Southern Miss is this year's host of the Conference USA Baseball Championship, scheduled for May 25-29, 2022 in Hattiesburg, MS. The top eight teams in the conference will compete for an automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Last season, Middle Tennessee made its first appearance in the league tournament for the first time since 2015.
As the No. 8 seed, the Blue Raiders finished the regular season 23-27-1 and 12-19-1 against C-USA opponents. After winning the first game of the Conference USA Tournament against Charlotte, MT dropped the next two to end its season.
In his fourth season as head coach, Toman returns seven position player starters and 12 pitchers from last season and brings in 22 newcomers. The Blue Raiders also welcome new associate head coach Jerry Meyers and assistant coach Jordan Getzelman to the staff.
"This is definitely one of the toughest schedules we've ever put together," Toman said. "The schedule is loaded with perennial NCAA postseason teams and if we win our share we should have a great RPI in our quest to play in the postseason."
