Blue Raiders sign Mattia Bernardi

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame has announced the signing of Mattia Bernardi to his 2021 recruiting class.
The Italian prospect will enroll in the fall of 2021.
"We have been recruiting Mattia for a while," Borendame said. " Assistant coach Andrea Caligiana and I wanted to make sure this was the right fit. He prefers hard court, and his game is suited well for singles and doubles. He is athletic and moves well. His results just keep getting stronger each week and I anticipate him to thrive in our system."
Mattia Bernardi | Trento, Italy
A native of Trento, Italy, Bernardi played in Serie A in Italy and had wins over Jacopo Stefanini in singles and downed Matteo Donati and Walter Trusendi in doubles. In ITF U18, Bernardi reached the finals in singles and doubles in Albania and won a total of five doubles finals and semifinals in Denmark. He made the finals in Croatia in singles and reached the semifinals and finals in Germany Grade 1 division in U16. During his U14 season, he had victories in in singles and doubles in Dublin and Austria.
Bernardi was the U16 runner-up on the national team championships in 2018. He played professionally at the doubles 25k in Italy and reached the semifinals.
"I am extremely proud to finally become a Blue Raider, it has been a long road. I am looking forward to making this team stronger than ever," Bernardi said.
