Women's Soccer Opens Spring Season Monday Against Vanderbilt

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team will kick off its spring season Monday when it welcomes Vanderbilt to Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., and the match will be live-streamed on CUSA.TV.
Due to health and safety recommendations and current state guidelines, attendance at Middle Tennessee women's soccer home competitions is limited to 10% max fan capacity only.
Looking Back
The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team had a solid 2019 campaign going 8-10-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference. In addition to a sixth-place finish in the C-USA regular-season standings, the Blue Raiders made an appearance in the C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals for the fifth time in six years.
Star forward Peyton DePriest had a stellar junior campaign setting the program record for goals in a season with 18. The Franklin, Tennessee native led the team last year in goals (18), points (38), shots (57), shots on goal (33), and shots-on-goal percentage (.579). After the 2019 season, she was named C-USA Player of the Year, C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, C-USA All-Conference First Team selection, and named to the C-USA All-Academic Second Team.
Looking Ahead
The Blue Raiders are scheduled to play eight matches this spring, with all but three being held in the state of Tennessee. The team will face six C-USA foes before heading to Houston, TX, for the C-USA Tournament on Apr. 13-17.
The team returns five players who started or saw significant playing time in the 2019 season. Additionally, the program has added nine freshmen and junior transfer Isabelle Chinchay to its 2021 spring roster. Middle Tennessee returns two of its top five goal scorers from 2019 in Peyton DePriest and Maddison Falter.
Series History
Sunday will be the sixth all-time meeting between the Blue Raiders and Commodores, as Vanderbilt owns a 5-0-0 advantage in the series. The teams last met on Aug. 30, 2012, as the Blue Raiders suffered a 2-0 loss at home.
Scouting Vanderbilt
In the 2020 fall season, the Commodores went 8-4-0 overall and finished fourth in the SEC East Division. The team would storm through the SEC Tournament, taking down three top 25 opponents en route to the tournament championship.
The Vanderbilt offensive production was distributed evenly as 12 players scored at least one goal during the 2020 fall season. The Commodore offense ranked first in goals, second in shots, points, and assists in the SEC during the fall.
