Van Der Werff Named C-USA Freshman of the Week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After collecting double-digit kills in both matches against Old Dominion, Amelia Van Der Werff earned Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Van Der Werff averaged 2.40 kills per set on a .541 hitting percentage as the Blue Raiders split the series with Old Dominion. The Leavenworth, Kan. native opened the weekend with a 10-kill performance and .571 hitting percentage in Sunday's match, where she also contributed three digs and one block. On Monday, she was all over the court collecting 14 kills, three aces, and three digs.
Van Der Werff currently leads the team with 53 kills averaging 2.41 per set. She also ranks first in C-USA and 11th nationally in hitting percentage with a .458 clip.
Amelia Van Der Werff is the first Middle Tennessee player ever to receive a weekly Freshman of the Week honor in C-USA.
