Lady Raiders drop tight 4-3 decision to Marshall

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team fell to Marshall in a 4-3 battle on Saturday at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Marshall (1-1, 1-0 C-USA) took the doubles point.
The sophomore pair of Love-Star Alexis and Muskan Gupta won their match on court two over Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych 6-4.
Marshall pair Liz Stefancic and Jutte Can Hansewyck tied the doubles up with a win on court one with a 6-3 win over Lee Barnard and Lidia Burrows.
The doubles was clinched on court three with Marshall pair of Maid Ballow and Madison Riley.
Middle Tennessee opened singles scoring with a win on court six. The Lady Raider' Noelle Mauro defeated Stefancic 6-4, 6-3 to even the score at 1-1. She goes 2-0 in singles on the weekend.
Marshall upped the lead to 2-1 when Riley collected the first singles point for Marshall on court five. She took down Alexis in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Graduate senior Lidia Burrows knotted the score up at 2-2 lead with a win on court two. She took down Ballow in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
On court four, sophomore Muskan Gupta fell to Hansewyck in a triple set decision, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Marshall grabbed a point, pushing the Thundering Herd lead to 3-2 with matches on courts one and three.
Lee Barnard fell on court one in a three-set battle to Anna Smith, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch the Marshall win at 4-2 with court three still in action.
On court three, senior Zani Barnard took a win over Dankanych, 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3.
Up next, the Lady Raiders will take on Butler in Indianapolis on Feb. 12.
