MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The day did not start out great for the 46th-ranked Middle Tennessee men's tennis team, but it's fortune quickly changed as they downed DePaul, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Blue Demons won the doubles point, but MTSU responded by winning all six singles matches to improve to 12-5 this season and win their 27th straight match at home.
Chris Edge earned the first win of the day for the Raiders with a 6-4, 6-1 straight sets victory. Stijn Slump quickly followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win at third singles to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage in the match.
Francisco Rocha mimicked Slump as he also blanked his opponent in the second set after winning the first set, 6-3.
In a battle to see who would clinch the match for Middle Tennessee, Tom Moonen defeated his opponent 7-6 (4), 6-3 about one second before Pavel Motl won his match, 6-2, 6-4.
Max Rauch added an extra point for the Raiders with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
For Rauch and Moonen, the wins today give them each 81 singles wins in their careers, moving them into ninth place in MTSU history.
The Blue Raiders will be back at the Adams Tennis Complex on Sunday when they host #29 South Florida. The match is set to start at 12 p.m.
