MT drops series opener against Georgia Tech

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — An early deficit put Middle Tennessee behind the eight ball on Friday afternoon, as Georgia Tech (10-18) took an early lead and stretched it in the late innings to get the series opening win over the Blue Raiders (13-12).
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 1, GEORGIA TECH 10
» Friday's meeting marked the first game in the first ever home weekend series against a Power 5 program in MT softball history.
» Georgia Tech came out firing in the first inning, as the first four Yellow Jackets to step inside the batter's box came around to score.
» Georgia Tech scored its first run on a bloop single to left field and its second on a sacrifice bunt. Runs three and four were on another single to left.
» MT answered and got a run back in the bottom half of the first, as Summer Burgess led off with an infield single and came around to score on a single up the middle by Mia Marinakis.
» Both teams went scoreless in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.
» The Yellow Jackets added three runs on a pair of homers in the top of the sixth to make it 7-1.
» After MT went scoreless in its half of the sixth, Georgia Tech added three more insurance runs in the seventh to ensure a 10-1 win in the series opener.
» Kelci Hill's 2-for-3 performance, including a double in the third inning, gives her a team-leading six multi-hit games this season.
» Last week's Conference USA and TSWA Pitcher of the Week Corrina Dodd started for MT and went 5.1 innings. Gretchen Mead came out of the bullpen for one inning, and Kailey Ahlstrom was the last MT pitcher in the circle, facing two batters in the seventh and getting them both out.
