MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In a hard-fought battle with Louisiana Tech, the Middle Tennessee women's tennis team came away with a victory for their first Conference USA win of the season.
Overall, the Raiders improve 6-6 this season while the Bulldogs fall to 4-5. It is the fourth straight win in this series for MTSU.
The Bulldogs took the first doubles match, but Lidia Burrows and Lee Barnard quickly answered with a 6-2 victory meaning the doubles point came to the final match involving Zani Barnard and Love-Star Alexis. The pair was even with the opponents most of the set until they were able to break serve up 6-5 for the victory.
In singles competition, Burrows and Muskan Gupta quickly dispatched their opponents, 6-2,6-3 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
Louisiana Tech got the match back to within 3-2 as they won on courts three and six. On court one, Lee Barnard took the first set, but dropped the second set in a tiebreak while on court four, Alexis fell in set one, but came back in set two, winning in a tiebreak, 8-6.
Needing only to win one of the two remaining matches, the Raiders did more than enough as they took home the victory on both courts. Barnard clinched the overall match victory as she broke her opponent's serve in the final game to win 6-4, while Alexis eased to a 6-2 final set win.
Middle Tennessee is right back in action tomorrow at the Adams Tennis Complex as they will battle Southern Mississippi. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
