MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After putting on a show with four goals in her collegiate debut, Middle Tennessee women's soccer player Ashley Shimberg has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Shimberg put the game away for the Blue Raiders against Marshall on Friday as she scored four straight goals in an 18-minute span to secure a 7-2 victory for MTSU.
The Tampa native scored her first goal in the 72nd minute followed by her second goal just four minutes later. With the Raiders up 5-2, she kept pushing, adding her third goal in the 89th minute and her final goal with one second to go in the game.
It is just the fifth time in program history that a player has scored four goals in one game and the first time since Shan Jones in 2009. It is also the first time that a Raider has accomplished the feat against a conference opponent.
Shimberg joins Caroline Manley as Blue Raiders to be honored by Conference USA this season as Manley was named Defensive Player of the Week on March 9.
