Raiders Take Down Southern Miss, Advance to Quarterfinals

DENTON, Texas – The #10 Middle Tennessee women's tennis team advanced to the Conference USA quarterfinals, Thursday morning as they defeated #7 Southern Miss, 4-2.
With the win, the Blue Raiders will now play #2 Rice, tomorrow at 8 a.m.
MTSU got off to a fast start Thursday morning, picking up the doubles point with dual 6-1 victories by both Love-Star Alexis and Zani Barnard as well as Lee Barnard and Lidia Burrows.
In singles, Alexis and Burrows quickly gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead with straight-set victories, each winning 6-2, 6-1.
The Golden Eagles got back to within one with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
On court five, Muskan Gupta dropped the first set, 2-6, but came back to win the second set, 6-3. In the third set, Gupta went up 5-3, but dropped the next three games to go down 6-5. However, she responded and forced a tiebreak, which she was able to win, 7-5, giving the Raiders the victory.
