CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Middle Tennessee's offense picked up where it left off Friday, but as game four between the Blue Raiders (15-15, 1-3) and Charlotte (17-8, 3-1) progressed, the 49ers held on to a slim lead and claimed a Conference USA opening series win over MT.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 4, CHARLOTTE 6
» The Blue Raiders and 49ers split Friday's doubleheader to give Charlotte a 2-1 series advantage heading into Saturday's game.
» Summer Burgess led off the game with a single to left field to extend her hitting streak to a team-best eight games. Burgess came around to score the game's first run due to a fielding error on a ball hit by Makenzie Hutchinson.
» Amaya Harris took over on the basepaths for Hutchinson and came around to score on a wild pitch to help MT take a 2-0 lead. Jocelynn De La Cruz and Lexi Cushing both singled in the inning, but the Blue Raiders left the bases loaded to end their first turn at the dish.
» Burgess scored her second run in as many innings as Kelci Hill collected the RBI with a sacrifice fly.
» Charlotte then roared back with four runs to take the lead in the bottom of the second.
» The 49ers added a solo homer in the fourth inning to extend its advantage to 5-3.
» De La Cruz singled with one out in the fifth and was replaced at first base by Jaya Herring. Cushing notched her second base hit of the game, and Herring touched the plate to make it a one-run game after a 49er infielder committed an error.
» Just as the Blue Raiders came within striking distance, Charlotte again extended its lead with another solo home run in the fifth inning.
» MT didn't score in the sixth or seventh innings, so the 49ers finished off the series win.
