MACON, Ga. – Middle Tennessee struggled from the outset on day one of the Brickyard Collegiate, posting a pair of high rounds to land in 12th place with 18 holes to go on Tuesday.
The Blue Raiders (+57) lead only UAB (+61) and Daytona State (+73) in the 14-team field, but do have seven teams within 16 strokes ahead of them and could make a move with a decent score in round three.
Taylor Edlin and Sophie Burks – the latter of which is competing as an individual – provide the top two marks so far as the pair are inside the Top 15 on the individual leaderboard.
Edlin is 7-over par (76-75=151) and tied for 11th while Burks is 8-over par (77-75=152) and tied for 13th in the field of 81 golfers.
Molly Bebelaar made appositive stride towards the end of the day with a 1-under par stretch in her final six holes and is just outside the top half of the field at 15-over par (81-78=159).
Caroline Caudill (83-78=161), Catherine Caudill (82-80=162) and Madison Smith (85-80=165) will each look for a turnaround on day two to help the Blue Raiders gain confidence before the Conference USA Championship.
"We just had a very slow start to the day again and counldn't seem to handle the course conditions very well," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "Taylor and Sophie hung in there with pretty good rounds, but also know there is still room for improvement.
"We'll just have to come out tomorrow and have a better mindset and see if we can move up the leaderboard."
Tuesday's round begins with tee times off holes 1 and 10 beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET. Live scoring can be followed on Golfstat.com.
