JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Middle Tennessee's six-game road swing ended Tuesday with 10 innings at Jacksonville State, as the Gamecocks (12-16) walked it off with a homer to best the Blue Raiders (15-16).
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 3, JACKSONVILLE STATE 6 (10 Inn.)
» Jacksonville State entered on a hot streak as winners of their last six games.
» Kailey Ahlstrom earned the start in the circle, her third of the season, and tossed 3.2 perfect innings before surrendering the first Gamecock hit.
» Freshman right fielder Nahri Tath-Slezak was No. 9 in the Blue Raider lineup and got the game's first hit, a single in the top of the third. After stealing second base, she was stranded in scoring position.
» In the fourth, MT got its second baserunner of the game as Kaylee Richetto walked with one out. She was replaced on the basepaths by Jaya Herring, who stole second but was left in scoring position as the half-inning ended.
» The Blue Raiders finally broke through on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, which started with a Claire Smith single to center field. Smith advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third when Lani Rodriguez successfully laid down a sacrifice bunt and scored when Tath-Slezak perfectly executed the squeeze bunt play.
» Ahlstrom and the Blue Raiders kept the Gamecocks off the board in the fifth with a strike 'em out, throw 'em out double play. Ryan King caught strike three and fired the ball back to Summer Burgess, who dove to make the tag and put an end to the fifth.
» Richetto led off the Blue Raider sixth with a single, and Amaya Harris took over for her at first base. Harris was brought home to score when Lexi Cushing hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field.
» MT got its second run in the sixth when Smith doubled and scored a pinch-running Shelby Sargent.
» The Gamecocks matched MT's offensive output in its half of the sixth when a two-run homer put an end to Ahlstrom's day in the circle.
» Jacksonville State then scored one run in the seventh inning to send the game to extras.
» Danielle Taitt entered the circle as the third Blue Raider pitcher of the day with one out and two Gamecocks on base in the bottom of the ninth and kept JSU from ending the game.
» MT had a golden opportunity in the top of the 10, as Burgess notched a hit in her ninth straight game, and Kelci Hill followed with a bunt single. The top two Blue Raider hitters advanced to second and third with one out but were unable to score.
» Jacksonville State answered by hitting a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th to end the game.
» MT stole seven bases to match their season high, previously recorded against Jacksonville State in Murfreesboro on March 24.
