BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season Friday with two matches against Samford and UAB. Lidia Burrows won both her singles matches, setting a school-record in the process, but that was all for the Raiders as they dropped both matches, 4-1.
Burrows' 6-4, 6-2 win against Samford to open the day was her 92nd-career singles win, setting a new MTSU program record.
After the Raiders dropped the doubles point, Burrows knocked out her opponent first to tie the match for MTSU, but Noelle Mauro fell in straight sets at No. 5 to give Samford the lead right back.
Zani Barnard and Lee Barnard both went three sets with their opponents, but ultimately fell in the final set to give the match to the Bulldogs.
Muskan Gupta and Love-Star Alexis also went three sets, but both their matches went unfinished.
In the nightcap against UAB, Burrows again won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, for the lone Raider win of the match.
Lee Barnard, Mauro, and Lilly-Sophie Schmidt all won the first set, but could not put their opponents away as they all fell in three sets. Alexis fell at No. 3 in straight sets, clinching the match for the Blazers.
Gupta also went three sets, but her match went unfinished.
Up next for the Blue Raiders is the Conference USA Championship. The tournament will be held from April 22-25 in Denton, Texas.
