DENTON, Texas – The Blue Raider men's and women's cross-country teams competed Saturday morning at the Conference USA Championships held in Denton, Texas at the Pioneer Soccer Park. The women finished in second and the men finished in third.
The women fell short of a fourth conference championship title in-a-row after a second-place finish with 54 points. Graduate student Joice Jebor led the Blue Raiders with a fourth-place finish and a time of 21:17.4. Jebor earned her fifth XC First Team All-Conference USA honor (ninth All-Conference USA honor of her career) and took home the Outstanding Senior honor for the women's side. Senior Mercy Chepkurui finished right behind Jebor in fifth with a time of 21:31.2, giving her a First Team All-Conference USA nod, her fourth all conference honor in cross country.
The freshmen impressed for the women, but the biggest story being freshman Agnes Chepkurui competing in her first collegiate meet on a championship stage and earning Second Team All-Conference USA to go along with Freshman of the Meet honors. Agnes finished in ninth with a time of 21:40.4.
Per usual, senior Hillary Kimaiyo led the way for the men with a sixth-place finish and a time of 24:33.0. Kimaiyo was the lone Blue Raider on the men's side to earn First Team All-Conference USA honors.
Sophomore Vincent Yegon and senior Habtamu Geta both finished behind Kimaiyo with times of 24:41.0 and 24:49.5 respectively. The team as a whole took third, 38 points behind a nationally ranked Charlotte team who took first.
