Blue Raiders tied for fourth after first round of Daniel Island Intercollegiate

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Battling constant rain in addition to the course and field, Middle Tennessee men's golf finished the first day of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate in a tie for fourth place Sunday. MTSU shot a collective 304 (+16) in the soggy conditions at Daniel Island Club, led by Owen Stamper and Kevin Jegers.
Stamper and Jegers ended the round tied for 14th individually at 75 (+3). Each carded a pair of birdies Sunday.
In his first appearance in the Blue Raiders' lineup, Tate Heintzelman carded a 76 (+4) to finish tied for 24th.
Michael Barnard heads into the second round in a tie for 40th at 78 (+6). Gavin Clements rounds out the lineup at 82 (+10), tied for 79th.
Playing as an individual, Carter Maneth matched Heintzelman at 76 (+4).
By the Numbers
3 – Three of MTSU's eight birdies came on the par 5, 557-yard 18th hole.
2 – Stamper, Jegers, Maneth and Clements each recorded two birdies to lead the team Sunday.
9 – MTSU is nine strokes off the team lead.
