Blue Raiders Lose Second Half Lead and Fall 4-3 to Louisiana Tech

Middle Tennessee unable to hold onto 2-1 halftime lead
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders trotted back onto the pitch at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium with a one-goal lead over Louisiana Tech going into the second half. Following three unanswered goals scored by the Lady Techsters that gave them a 4-2 lead, Blue Raider midfielder Megan Carroll found the back of the net in the 70' to set up a dramatic final 20 minutes of the contest. Though it had a few good looks, Middle Tennessee was unable to get the equalizer and fell 4-3 to the Lady Techsters on Sunday afternoon.
Louisiana Tech struck first to take an early 1-0 lead in the 9', but that was erased midway through the first half by Kirstine Lykke when the sophomore scored her team-high fourth goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 12' to knot it up at 1-1.
Following several key saves by Blue Raider goalkeeper Hannah Suder to keep the game level, freshman Emma Pettersen broke though the Louisiana Tech backline on a beautiful feed from teammate Eleanor Gough to give Middle Tennessee a 2-1 lead that it would take to the locker room. In the second half, the Lady Techster offense came alive as it outscored Middle Tennessee 3-1 in the period to secure a trio of points on the road.
By the Numbers
8- The team lead in points owned by sophomore Kirstine Lykke following her goals today and this past Thursday in the 1-1 draw with Charlotte.
3- The number of players that found the back of the net today for Middle Tennessee (Kirstine Lykke, Emma Pettersen and Megan Carroll).
Rhoden's Roundup
"The spirit and the fight at the end of the game was there and it's good to see that in a young team," said Middle Tennessee Head Coach Aston Rhoden. "We did a good job of making ourselves opportunities on offense and in the second half; we just didn't take them. We have to have better concentration and focus and know how to manage the game a lot better."
