Blue Raiders win team title as Jegers sets program record

Estonian sophomore earns first career individual title
ST. GEORGE, Utah – Middle Tennessee kept its foot on the gas in Sunday's third round of the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Course. The Blue Raiders won the team title with a 54-hole score of 826 (-38), while Kevin Jegers won the individual title and set a program record with a score of 201 (-15).
Jegers carded eight birdies and 12 pars to finish the round at 64 (-8), coming one stroke shy of the program record for the lowest single round. His 20 birdies in the tournament led the field, with the next-closest competitors recording 15 each. The title was the first of Jegers' career.
Owen Stamper continued his hot streak with a third-round score of 68 (-4), finishing the tournament in a tie for fourth place at 207 (-9). The Scottsville, Ky., native notched eight birdies of his own to finish off a 21-spot climb after ending the first round tied for 25th.
Nick Wolf earned a tie for seventh place Sunday, shooting a 70 (-2) to finish at 210 (-6). Wolf exercised command of the back nine, going 3-under on those holes with three birdies and six pars.
Michael Barnard tied for 11th individually, carding a 74 (+2) Sunday to finish at 212 (-4). Jack Heath finished his first tournament as a Blue Raider tied for 20th after carding a 76 (+4) in Sunday's third round.
Mattias Varjun recorded his second straight under-par round Sunday, shooting a 71 (-1) to finish in a tie for 16th while playing as an individual. Gavin Clements, also playing as an individual, carded a 73 (+1) Sunday to end the tournament in a tie for 23rd at 217 (+1).
The Blue Raiders finished 22 strokes ahead of second-place Oral Roberts. Their team score of 826 ties the second-lowest 54-hole mark in program history.
MT's 72 pars and eight eagles both led the field. Barnard went -10 on par-5 holes to lead the tournament, followed by Stamper's -9 and Varjun's -8. Barnard and Stamper tied for the tourney lead with three eagles each.
