TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Middle Tennessee Softball (2-8) drops a pair of contests on day two of the Easton Bama Bash on Saturday, falling 8-0 against No. 2 Alabama (8-0) and then falling in extras against Evansville (6-3), 2-1.

The Blue Raiders held tough over the first three innings of play, holding the Tide to only one hit. The Blue Raiders also led Alabama in hits 2-1 through three.
However, the Tide got things going in the fourth. After a bases-loaded situation, Danielle Taitt took the circle for the Blue Raiders. Alabama scored the first, knocking a one-out sacrifice fly to right field to take a 1-0 lead, but Taitt closed out the inning by tossing out her first strikeout of the season to limit the threat and leave two Alabama runners stranded.
Alabama broke away in the fifth. The Tide pushed across two on a two-RBI double to left center to take a 3-0 lead. Another walk came across on an HBP to make it 4-0, before an Alabama sacrifice fly extended the Tide's lead to five, 5-0. Another two-RBI double to left field pushed the Tide's lead to seven, before a fielding error allowed Alabama's final run to score and close the game, 8-0.
Senior Lani Rodriguez led the Blue Raiders in the contest, going 1-for-1. Freshmen Claire Czajkowski and Laura Mealer also recorded hits for the Blue Raiders, going 1-for-2 against the Tide.
Senior Gretchen Mead got the start in the circle for MT, putting in 3.1 innings of work, and allowed one run on one hit and recorded a strikeout. Danielle Taitt threw 0.2 innings in the contest, allowing four runs on four hits and tallied a strikeout. Kailey Ahlstrom closed out the game for the Blue Raiders, throwing 0.2 innings and allowing three runs on one hit.
Middle Tennessee 1 vs. Evansville 2
The Blue Raiders led the Evansville Purple Aces in hits 3-0 through the first three and a half innings of play, but the Purple Aces were able to tally their first hit of the contest in the bottom of the third, but two Evansville runners were left stranded as freshman Claire Woods recorded her fourth strikeout of the game to close the inning.
The Purple Aces loaded the bases in the fourth on a one-out single, a fielder's choice, and a walk. However, Woods locked in to throw back-to-back strikeouts, catching a pair of Evansville batters swinging to get out of the jam and keep the contest scoreless.
However, the Purple Aces broke the stalemate in the fifth. After a leadoff walk, the Purple Ace reached second on a wild pitch, before a single into left field brought across the Evansville runner and put the Purple Aces on top, 1-0.
The Blue Raiders responded in the seventh. Mealer led things off with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rodriguez connected on a sacrifice bunt to move Mealer to third and put the tying run 60 feet away. Richetto stepped up to the plate to lay down a sacrifice fly into center field to bring across the game-tying run and bring the game even at 1-1.
However, the Purple Aces connected on a two-out triple to right field in the bottom of the eighth. A pair of walks loaded the bases for Evansville, before knocking a walk-off two-out single into left field to bring the contest to its final. 2-1.
Mealer led the Blue Raiders against the Purple Aces, batting 2-for-3 and scoring MT's sole run in the contest. Junior Kelci Hill and sophomore Amaya Harris both recorded a hit in the contest for the Blue Raiders, while junior Kaylee Richetto recorded the RBI in the loss.
