Four Blue Raiders Heading to Boston for Last Chance Meet

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Four Blue Raiders are heading to Boston to solidify their chances at going back to Birmingham for the NCAA Championships. The four individuals from MT attending are Eusila Chepkemei, Esther Isa, Alaba Akintola, and Benjamin Onyekwelu.
Last Time Out for the Blue Raiders
The Middle Tennessee women's and men's track and field teams both finished as runners up at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The all-around team effort over the two-day weekend saw a handful of records broken and 17 trips to the podium for individual performances.
Eusila Chepkemei had an out-of-this-world weekend in Alabama. Chepkemei became the first female in Conference USA history to sweep the 800-meter, mile, and 3000-meter. Chepkemei's three first-place finishes on day two included a program record-breaking performance in the 3000-meter that helped her secure the High Point Scorer of the Meet award and First Team All-Conference USA honors. Chepkemei accounted for 40 of the women's 91 points last weekend.
Esther Isa took first place in the women's triple jump with a personal best length of 13.48, earning Isa First Team All-Conference USA honors. Isa also took second in the women's high jump with a final height of 1.78m, .01 meters from her personal best.
Alaba Akintola took home Freshman of the Meet, High Point Scorer of the Meet, and First Team All-Conference USA on the men's side. Akintola was nothing short of electric last weekend, erasing a 17-year-old record in the men's 200 meter with a time of 20.72 seconds. Akintola also clocked 6.72 seconds on his way to a first-place finish in the men's 60 meter. Overall, Akintola accounted for 20 points for the Blue Raiders.
Benjamin Onyekwelu earned First Team All-Conference USA for taking first in the men's long jump with a length of 7.69 meters. Onyekwelu also finished in fourth place during the men's triple jump hitting a personal-best mark of 15.36 meters.
