No. 18 Middle Tennessee Advances to Semifinals With a 4-0 Victory Over UAB

NORFOLK, Va. – 1-seed/No. 18 Middle Tennessee men's tennis (25-4) moves on to the Semifinals of the 2022 Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship, sweeping 8-seed UAB 4-0 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Blue Raiders set the best record/most wins in program history at 25 wins and four losses on the season.
1-seed Middle Tennessee advances to the Semifinals to take on 5-seed UTSA, who upset host school 4-seed ODU earlier in the day at 4-1. Saturday's Semifinal match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. CT, live streaming will be available on Web Track Tennis and live stats can be found here.
In the match against 8-seed UAB, MT came out and imposed their will in doubles competition, establishing the tone for the remainder of the contest. Stepan Holis and John Chin were the first Raiders to finish play, winning 6-1 on court No. 3. Seniors Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump clinched the doubles portion with a 6-4 victory on two.
Middle Tennessee rode their momentum into singles action, claiming five of six first sets over the Blazers. Slump dropped a close 7-6 (7-2) decision in the first set against Michal Lusovsky on the top court.
Freshman Chin replaced Chris Edge in the lineup today and defeated Martin Vasquez on court No. 5 in straight sets at 6-0, 6-1. The Mandeville, Jamaica native remains an unblemished 8-0 on the season in singles competition to put MT up two points.
Freshman Oskar Brostrom Poulsen finished second to put the Blue Raiders up three points on court No. 4, his first appearance of the season in that slot. The Denmark product took down Vojtech Podzemny in dominant fashion at 6-1, 6-0.
To clinch the match, Senior Pavel Motl earned a win over Noah Malige in straight sets at 6-4, 6-2 to meet the four-point threshold needed to advance the Raiders onto the next round.

The Championship Round
With a win over UTSA, MT would advance to the finals in three consecutive years to face the winner of 2-seed Florida Atlantic or 3-seed Charlotte on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.
