Lane named Athlon Sports Preseason All-American

The sophomore specialist ranked second nationally in punt return average in 2021
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee football standout Jaylin Lane has been named a Preseason All-American by Athlon Sports.
Lane was amongst the third-team specialists and made the team as a punt returner.
The rising redshirt sophomore receiver was named Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-American as a punt returner last year when he ranked second nationally in punt return average (11.5) and was 26th nationally in combined kick return yards (580).
Lane finished the season with 42 receptions for 466 yards and four touchdowns, while also leading the team in punt returns (19 for 295) and kickoff returns (13 for 285). Lane also had a punt return for a touchdown.
Lane was named first-team All-Conference USA as a punt returner in 2021.
Athlon Sports Preseason All-America teams are based on how players will perform in 2022. Career statistics and previous awards matter in player evaluation but choosing players for the 2022 All-America team is largely based on predicting and projecting the upcoming year.
