LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Middle Tennessee closed its season with back-to-back wins and an overtime road victory, defeating New Mexico State 31–24 on Saturday at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
Roman Gagliano delivered the game-winner in overtime, finding AJ Jones on an 11-yard touchdown pass to put the Blue Raiders in front to start the extra period. The touchdown capped a five-play, 25-yard drive and marked Gagliano's third scoring pass of the day.
Needing a stop to seal the win, the MTSU defense held firm. New Mexico State managed just one first down on its overtime possession before the Blue Raiders forced an incompletion on 4th-and-9, ending the game and securing MTSU's second straight victory to finish the year 3–9.
Gagliano finished 24-of-42 for 260 yards and three touchdowns, spreading the ball among multiple receivers. On the ground, the Blue Raiders controlled the line of scrimmage, rushing for 199 yards as a team. Jekail Middlebrook powered the attack with 95 yards on 20 carries, while DJ Taylor broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run in the first half.
Defensively, Middle Tennessee generated timely pressure and contributed two takeaways, helping limit the Aggies to just 84 rushing yards. Reggie Johnson and Juwon Gaston were among several defenders who came up with key stops late, including during the decisive overtime stand.
