Blue Raiders Fall to UAB in Conference USA Opener

Pettersen Scores in 2-1 Loss
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders conceded late in their conference opener as they fell 2-1 on Sunday afternoon against the UAB Blazers at PNC Field.
The Blazers' Jessica Wheeler scored in the 85th minute to break a stalemate after MTSU erased a halftime deficit and was seeking its own go-ahead goal for much for the second half.
Trailing 1-0, an Emma Pettersen strike tied the match in the 52nd minute after the Blue Raiders went into halftime down a goal. It was the first career goal for the freshman attacker from Kristiansand, Norway having been a starter in all but one of Middle Tennessee's matches so far in 2022.
The Blazers opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a goal from Carlyn Presley. UAB outshot Middle Tennessee 11-6 on the afternoon, while the teams each had four shots on goal.
The Raiders fall to 2-5-1 overall on the season.

8 – Goalkeeper Hannah Suder moves into 8th all-time in program history for saves, after recording a pair stops on Sunday afternoon. The Jacksonville, Fla. native has made 132 saves across her four-year Blue Raider career, passing Tory Martin on the program leaderboard.
4 - Middle Tennessee logged four total shots after halftime. This propelled the Blue Raiders back into the match after trailing early, and getting outshot 6-2 in the opening half.

"This was a tough road loss for us," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. "I thought we played well enough to get more from the game. We now shift our attention to North Texas at home."
