Suder’s season-high seven saves not enough as MTSU falls to North Texas at home
9/22/2022 9:18:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Murfreesboro, Tenn.— Middle Tennessee keeper Hannah Suder was busy in the Blue Raiders Conference USA home opener, as the senior goalkeeper tallied a season-high seven saves under the lights at the Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium. The North Texas offensive barrage proved to be too much, however, as a pair of second half goals blew the game open and led to a 3-0 Mean Green win.
Suder kept things tight for her team in the first half as the senior saved four of the five North Texas shots on goal, with nearly all of them coming on chances from in tight. North Texas forward Olivia Klein was able to score on a nice pass from Devyn Flannery that led her just to the right of Suder, which was the uncovered part of the net to give North Texas a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.
In the second half, Flannery was able to score off of a deflected pass to make it a 2-0 game in the 9' of the second half and less than a minute later, her teammate Taylor Tufts scored on an assist from Olivia Klein to stretch the lead to three.
By the Numbers
720: Number of minutes logged this season by defender Caroline Manley. The senior leads the team in that category and has now started in 52 of 53 career matches.
7: The number of saves Middle Tennessee goalkeeper Hannah Suder made tonight, a new season high for the Jacksonville, Florida, native.
Rhoden's Roundup
"I think that second goal (allowed in the second half) was a poor goal by our standards," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. "I feel like it certainly took the wind out of our sails. I was proud of the effort by our girls. They didn't fold. [Suder] held her own and did well in net. I wish we'd have given her a clean sheet because it's important to us and to her. Rivalry aside, it's important to win the next game Sunday [against Western Kentucky]. We are 0-2 in the league. It's not so much about Western as it is the next opponent and changing the path and course that we're on."
Blue Raider Notes
Middle Tennessee will face off with rival Western Kentucky on Oct. 2 at 5:00 p.m. at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
