Women’s tennis faces Austin Peay in home opener on Sunday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — After opening the season in Florida, Middle Tennessee women's tennis (0-2) returns home to the Adams Tennis Complex to face Austin Peay on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. CT.
The Blue Raiders dropped two close contests down in Fort Myers, Florida to begin the 2023 spring season, falling 4-3 to Liberty on Friday and again 4-3 to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
Lilly-Sophie Schmidt tallied three wins between the two matches. She won 7-5, 6-2 win in her singles match against Liberty. The junior from Germany went two-for-two against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
Love-Star Alexis tallied a ranked win 7-5, 6-4 over No. 122 Emma Bardet of FGCU. Freshman Sana Garakani went 2-0 on court No. 2 in singles. Muskan Gupta picked up a singles win over Liberty 6-3, 6-4 and a doubles win 6-4 against FGCU.
Match Three: Austin Peay (0-0, 0-0 OVC) vs. Middle Tennessee (0-2, 0-0 C-USA)

- Sunday's matchup will be the 41st meeting between the two programs. The Blue Raiders lead the series 36-4.
- The Blue Raiders are 19-1 against the Governors at home.
- Coach Bailey-Duvall is 3-1 against APSU.
Scouting the Governors
- Austin Peay returns three players from last year's squad: Yu-Hua Cheng, Jana Leder and Denise Torrealba. The three combined for 50 combined singles win in 2022.Torrealba and Leder were mostly on court No. 1 and No. 2 for singles. The returners would combine for 45 combined doubles wins.
- The Governors welcome five freshmen to this year's team.
