Akintola earns second 2023 Indoor C-USA Athlete of the Week honor

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Conference USA announced on Tuesday Jan. 31 its Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, including Middle Tennessee's Alaba Akintola, who was named Male Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Akintola ran in both the 60-meter and 200-meter this past weekend at the UNM Team Open where he qualified for the NCAA Championships. He took first place in the 60-meter race and second in the 200-meter race.
The senior from Ondo, Nigeria earned a time of 6.61 seconds in the 60-meter where he finished first in the finals. His previous best time in the 60-meter is 6.59s.
In the 200-meter race, Akintola set a new top Conference USA time and a nationally ranked sixth best time of 20.70s.
What's next for the Blue Raiders?
The men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Jaguar Invitational on Feb. 5.
