MTSU wins four singles to defeat Butler on Friday

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — In a battle to the last match, Middle Tennessee women's tennis extended their win streak to eight matches with a 4-3 victory over Butler on Friday, Feb. 24 in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Bulldogs took the doubles point with wins on court No. 1 and 3.
Love-Star Alexis got the Blue Raiders on the board with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court No. 1. The Bulldogs would take a point on court No. 3. MTSU would tally the next two points. On court No.4, Lilly-Sophie Schmidt picked up a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win. Freshman Sana Garakani battled her opponent to a 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory on court No. 2. On court No. 6, Butler would tie it up at 3-3. It would come down to senior Noelle Mauro on court No. 5. Mauro fell in the first set 1-6. The senior from Roswell, Ga. would fight back to win the next two sets 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4).

"I am proud of the girl's grit and fight. We knew Butler is getting stronger and would be a little tougher than last year. With some key injuries and illnesses, this was going to be a strategic win. We look forward to bringing the same fight to Vanderbilt in a few days."
