Akintola, Isa named C-USA Performers of the Meet

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Conference USA announced on Tuesday the Track and Field Performers of the Meet following the Indoor Championships held in Birmingham, Alabama on February 18-19. MTSU's Alaba Akintola and Esther Isa were among those receiving league honors.
Akintola ran in both the 60 meter and 200-meter events at the C-USA Championships. He set a new C-USA championship record in the 200-meter final with a time of 20.59s which ranks 10th overall in the NCAA. He also finished first in the 60 meter final where he ran a 6.67s to qualify for the NCAA championships.
Isa was named Female Field Performer of the Meet for the third consecutive year. She became the second athlete to win this award three times, joining Rice's Michelle Fokam.
Isa competed in three events in Birmingham including the women's high jump, long jump and triple jump. She took first place in the triple jump with a mark 13.08 meters that rans 19th overall in the NCAA. She had a pair of second place finishes in the high jump and long jump. In the high jump, she had a mark of 1.77 meters and in the long jump a mark of 6.41 meters for her new personal best and an NCAA ranked 12th overall.

The NCAA Championships will be coming up on March 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M.
