Blue Raiders to open the 2023 season at UC Riverside

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball team will kick off the season this weekend in California at the UC Riverside tournament from Feb. 9-12.
The Blue Raiders will play their first game against UC Riverside on Thursday and first pitch will be at 3 p.m. CT. The next day, they will play two games at 11 a.m. CT against Montana before taking on UC Riverside again at 4 p.m. CT. Saturday they will play just one game, taking on the Fresno State Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. CT. MTSU will then wrap up competition on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT taking on Montana.

The season opener marks the third ever matchup between Middle Tennessee and UC Riverside where the Blue Raiders lead 2-0. The meetings with Montana and Fresno State are the first time these programs have faced each other.
Scouting the Competition
UC Riverside is coming off an above-.500 2022 season record at 25-24 and 16-11 in the Big West where they finished fourth. Montana finished last season at 20-27 and 6-11 in the Big Sky. They finished near the bottom of the conference in the 2022 campaign. Lastly, in the Mountain West Conference, the Fresno State Bulldogs finished in the middle of the pack at 10-14 in league play and 19-36 overall.

The Blue Raiders will continue non-conference play on Feb. 17-19 in Fort Myers, Florida to compete in the FGCU Kickoff Classic. The softball team will take on Florida Gulf Coast, Boston College, and Lipscomb.
