MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Baseball is set for Wednesday's midweek showdown against Tennessee Tech, which serves as the Blue Raiders last non-conference tune up before Friday's Conference USA opener.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Reese Smith Jr. Field. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with WGNS 101.9 FM / 1450 AM (Murfreesboro), WGNS 100.5 FM (Smyrna) carrying the radio broadcast in conjunction with GoBlueRaiders.com and the Varsity Network App.
Probable Pitcher
RHP Ollie Akens is set to make his first Blue Raider start. The freshman most recently tossed a trio of frames out of the bullpen against Toledo on March 4.
All-Time Against Tennessee Tech
MTSU and Tennessee Tech share a storied history in their all-time series, dating back to when the pair were both in the Ohio Valley Conference together. The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series, 89-36-1, having won both of last year's games 8-4.
Quick Hitters
RHP Jaden Hamm completed an outstanding start last Friday in a 2-0 win over Evansville on March 10. While fanning 11 batters, the Culleoka, Tenn. native was the first Blue
Raider pitcher to toss a one-hit, nine-inning complete game shutout since Bob Hardin in 1976. Hamm moved to 3-1 on the season and currently carries a 2.57 ERA. He was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week on March 14 for his outstanding outing Friday.
2B JT Mabry has continued his fast start to 2023, having earned a leadoff spot in four consecutive matchups. Carrying an 11-game hit streak, the Chesterfield, MO. native maintains a .429 AVG and has hit safely in all but one contest in 2023.
OF Jackson Galloway has raised his AVG over 100 points across the past six games. During this stretch, the Kansas City native has logged a hit in five contests, including having a 3-4 afternoon on March 5 against Toledo and a 2-3 day in the series finale against Evansville, complete with two doubles and a walk. A .341 hitter in 2022, Galloway's productivity is instrumental to the Blue Raiders.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
Tennessee Tech is off to a 7-8 start in 2023. After a 12-1 loss at Vanderbilt on March 7, the Golden Eagles defeated North Alabama in last weekend's series, taking the final two games of the three-game set.
Junior OF Theo Bryant IV currently leads the squad with a .308 average, and boasts two homers so far in 2023.
While nobody else joins Bryant in hitting above .300, the Golden Eagles have proven to be a powerful lineup, hitting 21 home runs on the year. Conversely, they have surrendered 24 homers this season to date.
Matt Bragga leads the Golden Eagle program as head coach for the second consecutive and 17th overall season, having spent the 2019-21 season in the same role at Rice.
