RUSTON, La. – Middle Tennessee softball (38-18) advanced to the Conference USA title game with wins over four-seed Florida Atlantic (35-20) and regular season champions Charlotte (33-21) at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field on Friday night.
Game 1 – MTSU 2 – FAU 1
The Blue Raiders started with another big first inning with two hits, both being triples, and one run on a sacrifice fly from Laura Mealer.
Shelby Echols led off the game with a three-bagger for her fifth of the year to tie teammate Shelby Sargent for the league lead. Mealer sacrifice fly gave MTSU an early 1-0 lead.
Sargent started off the second inning with a double for the Blue Raiders' third extra base hit of the game. MTSU was unable to add to the lead, stranding Sargent on base and keeping the game 1-0. Kamryn Carcich picked up three strikeouts in the bottom of the second retiring the side in order.
A leadoff walk in the bottom of the third resulted in the Owls' first run to even the game at one headed into the fourth inning. MTSU recaptured the lead in the sixth on a RBI from Anyce Harvey that scored Mealer after she doubled for the 19th time this season.
Blevins doubled in the seventh for the Blue Raiders' sixth extra base hit of the game. Carcich held the Owls to just three hits and one run in her complete game performance to give the Blue Raiders their fourth win in the 2023 C-USA Championship.
Game 2 – MTSU 6 – Charlotte 5
The Blue Raiders struck first once again, scoring four first inning runs after Echols reached base on a throwing error and was driven in by Harris on a RBI single. Sargent then hit her fifth extra base hit of the tournament for a two-run double to extend the lead to three. Ansley Blevins followed that up with a RBI double of her own, giving the Blue Raiders a four-run lead after the top half of the first inning.
Charlotte tied the game up in the bottom of the first after the Blue Raiders allowed five free passes. Keri Munn took over in the circle throwing five scoreless innings to hold the 49ers off and give the Blue Raiders the win to advance to the championship game.
Back-to-back singles started the second inning from Mealer and Harris to allow for Harvey to get the RBI and give MTSU the 5-4 lead.
The third inning featured a scoreless inning for both sides to keep the game in favor of the Blue Raiders 5-4 headed into the fourth inning. Charlotte tied the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run.
MTSU recaptured the lead in the sixth after Savannah Behabetz singled and came around to score on a wild pitch.

"It feels amazing to be able to go out and pitch for this team. I knew I needed to pound the zone and keep them off balance. I wanted to do this for this team because of how hard we have worked. Once we got ahead I knew I had to finish it off."
