Middle Tennessee Softball earns NFCA Mideast Regional Staff of the Year

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball staff was named to the Mideast Region Staff of the Year announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
The Blue Raiders' staff included head Coach Jeff Breeden and assistant coach Helen Peña in the 2022-23 season and helped lead MTSU to a program record 42 wins (42-20) and a Conference USA Championship with six named to the C-USA Championship All-Tournament team: Laura Mealer, Kamryn Carcich, Ansley Blevins, Amaya Harris, Anyce Harvey, and tournament MVP Shelby Sargent.
MTSU was selected for the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional and advanced to the final for the first time in program history. The Blue Raiders finished with a 3-2 record at the Tuscaloosa Regional and the most wins by a C-USA team in a NCAA regional since 2014.
The Blue Raiders led C-USA in batting average, hits, doubles, total bases, runs and RBIs. Breeden and his staff coached six players to All-Conference USA teams with Mealer named First Team and Julia Garcia, Harris, Gretchen Mead and Shelby Echols to Second Team and Blevins to All-Conference USA Freshman Team. MTSU had four players named to NFCA All-Region Teams as well, Mealer earned First Team with Mead, Echols and Harris on Second Team.
This award qualifies Breeden and his staff eligible for the NFCA's Division 1 National Coaching Staff of the Year announced June 22.
