MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee Softball head coach Jeff Breeden has announced the promotion of Helen Peña to Associate Head Coach. Peña is entering her second season with the program.
"I am very blessed to have a coach of Helen's quality on my staff," said Breeden. "She not only is masterful at technical skills and development but more importantly she is exemplary at her people skills. She makes everyone she comes in contact with a better person. She is very much deserving of this new title. I look forward to working with her for many years to come."
Peña helped lead the Blue Raiders to a program record 42 wins, a Conference USA Championship, a national top 25 ranking, and a spot in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional finals. The 2023 Middle Tennessee Softball coaching staff was named NFCA Mideast Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
In her first season as the pitching coach, Peña played a major role in Gretchen Mead earning NFCA All-Region Second Team and an All-Conference USA Second Team selection in 2023, along with Kamryn Carcich earning Conference USA All-Tournament honors.
"I'm beyond grateful for head coach Jeff Breeden and our athletic department for this wonderful opportunity to help lead under this new title," said Peña. "It's been a privilege to work alongside Coach Breeden and I value him as a friend and a mentor. I am excited to continue building and growing our program on a national level. MTSU Softball has a bright future and I'm thankful to be a part of it!"
