Gough’s Goal Sends Blue Raiders Home with Win
8/27/2023 3:28:00 PM | Women's Soccer
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In the waning moments of Middle Tennessee Soccer's match Sunday at the Howard Bison, the score still stood as a goalless stalemate.
Enter Eleanor Gough.
The senior finished a ball from Faith Adje in the 87' to put the Blue Raiders ahead for good at Greene Stadium in Washington, D.C.
MTSU improves to 2-1-1 with the win, and now stares down three consecutive home matches.
Rhoden's Roundup
"It shows a lot of the group's character. It wasn't an easy place to play. It wasn't an easy opponent to play. I'm really proud of the effort that everyone has shown in terms of being relentless in pursuing a win. We wanted to come away from trip trip with a win, so I'm really proud of what they did," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
Player Perspective – Eleanor Gough
"Lauren [Spaanstra's] first ball came over, and I was hanging in the back hoping for a second ball. Faith fought so hard, and so did Manon [Lebargy]. She just slotted through the perfect pass, and I honesty thought don't miss, you put it on a plate, just tap the ball in. It wasn't pretty, but we got the win," said Gough.
By the Numbers
11: The Blue Raiders outshot Howard 11-7, and fired five shots on target while conceding just three.
5: Emma Pettersen had a season-high five shots, with three coming on goal.
2: Adje is one of two Blue Raiders this season to have both a goal and an assist this year, with Cambell Kivisto being the other.
