Blue Raiders Fall in Close Battle with Liberty
9/21/2023 10:09:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer held the Liberty Flames in check for much of Thursday night at Dean. A Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium, but allowed a goal just over 10 minutes after halftime and could not mount an equalizer, falling 1-0 to its Conference USA foes.
Liberty struck in the 56' in what was MTSU's home CUSA opening fixture.
MTSU would muster eight total shots, five coming in the second half and three total coming on goal.
Faith Adje created the night's best chance for Middle Tennessee, taking a cross in the middle of the 18-yard box and putting the ball on target.
Rhoden's Roundup
"We know Liberty was going to be a strong defensive team, and they haven't given up many goals this year. We also knew we'd have to play a good offensive game to be able to threaten them. I thought we were able to contain their attack for most of the game without us going into a defensive shell. I just think we're not as composed on the ball in terms of our possession, which is how we play to create chances," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
By the Numbers
11: Goalkeeper Hannah Suder recorded a career-high 11 saves Thursday night and surpassed the 200 save mark across her MTSU career. She is the fifth Blue Raider to join the 200-save club.
209: At 209 total saves after Thursday's game, Suder moved into fourth all-time in saves at MTSU.
2: Yana Yordanova, Faith Adje and Cambell Kivisto led the Blue Raiders with two total shots each. Thursday marked the third consecutive match in which Yordanova led or equaled the team-high in shots.
