9/7/2023 9:06:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer conceded a late goal to the Chattanooga Mocs Thursday night and were unable to mount an equalizer, as they fell 2-1 at Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium.
Both teams scored in the second half off set pieces.
The Blue Raiders went into halftime down 1-0 after the Mocs drew first blood in the 27.' A Lauren Spaanstra corner kick was finished by Manon Lebargy in the box to make it 1-1 in the 56.' But with both teams seeking a winner in the final 10 minutes of the match, it was the visitors who converted a free kick in the 83' to go ahead for good.
After being outshot 9-5 in the opening 45 minutes, Middle Tennessee drew even in second half shots, 10-10.
MTSU moves to 3-3-1 with the loss.
Rhoden's Roundup
"We're finishing games the right way, but we're not starting them the right way. In the second half, we came out with more energy, we came out with more zest, and we were playing the way we know how to play and got some success. It was unfortunate that they got a set piece they scored from. But I'm pleased with the fight the team continues to show, we just must make sure that we can put together a larger and more consistent spell. I think if we can do that, we'll be fine," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
By the Numbers
5: Goalkeeper Hannah Suder's five saves were a season-high Thursday.
3: Lebargy is the first MTSU player to have goals in at least three consecutive matches since Peyton DePriest scored in four consecutive fixtures in 2021 (9.5-9.16).
4: Eleanor Gough led the Blue Raiders with four shots. Lebargy and Emma Pettersen followed with three each.
6: A team-high six players finished with 90 minutes Thursday.
