Blue Raiders, Commodores set for Matchup at GEODIS Park
9/9/2023 3:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer will make history alongside the Vanderbilt Commodores at GEODIS Park Sunday night.
But the Blue Raiders will also look to draw from the past when taking the pitch against their foes from the Music City.
The highly anticipated fixture has seen its complete allotment of tickets run out. However, SEC Network+ will stream the match on the WatchESPN app and website.
Kickoff from the largest soccer-specific stadium in the United States and home of Nashville Soccer Club is set for 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
Notes and Storylines
Hang it in the Louvre: Sophomore M Manon Lebargy has scored goals in three consecutive matches for the Blue Raiders. The Lille, France native had a first half brace against Lipscomb on Aug. 31, before giving Middle Tennessee an insurance goal in the 80' against Cleveland State Sept. 3. And on Sept. 7 vs. Chattanooga, Lebargy headed in a corner kick in the 56.'
Lebargy is the first MTSU player to score in at least three consecutive matches since 2021, when Peyton DePriest had goals in four straight fixtures (Sept. 5-16).
Looking to Repeat History: The last time the Blue Raiders played Vanderbilt in Nashville? A Sept. 12 classic on Jess Neely Drive in 2021. After going down a goal under four minutes out of halftime, DePriest scored in the 68' and 87', putting away the game-winning goal with a header on the edge of the six-yard box.
Lebargy's current three-match goal scoring streak? DePriest's goals against Vandy in Nashville mark the previous time a Blue Raider scored in three fixtures in a row.
The Past, The Present: While the Vanderbilt-MTSU rivalry is marked by memorable moments in the past, Sunday's match is also about the present. Sept. 10 marks the first college soccer match at the home of Nashville SC since the venue opened in 2022.
Record Watch: G Hannah Suder and D Caroline Manley seek spots on all-time program career record lists in 2023.
Suder currently stands in the top 10 of numerous program goalkeeping records, including being tied for fifth in career saves (186), fourth in games started (51), fourth in games played (56) and fourth in minutes played (4,700:32).
Manley meanwhile has started in all 68 Blue Raider matches across her career. She currently stands at 4,946 consecutive minutes across 56 matches dating back to late in her freshman year. With 6,222 total minutes under her belt, she has entered the top 10 in career minutes played in program history among outfield players, and is the 12th Blue Raider to enter the 6,000 minute club.
